It has been decided that on the 7th January 2010, Ben, Rory and myself will be off to Uganda for 8 months.
At this stage the details on where and what we'll be doing are a little sketchy, with more details coming after 24th Nov.
In the mean time I'm an Christmas temp at the Bromley Disney Store, so come visit! And have a canvassing job for the Daily Mail, so at least I'm earning plenty of money!

Molkie NOT 2Mauritania
It's all changed!
At the start of the month, I was informed that I'd no longer be going to Mauritania, due to recent security breaches (most noticeably attacks claimed by Al-Qaeda!).
The 2 girls from my group have been placed in Dakar, the capital of Senegal and my partner Shaun has been placed in Uganda.
After having spoken to PT, I'm currently being considered for an 8 month placement, leaving in January, in Senegal, though this can't be confirmed until nearer November, with a definite placement available in Uganda.
Whilst the plus side of Senegal is that it's French speaking, the main draw back is that I may be living on my own (or possibly with 2 lads). This all depends on what happens on the 8 month training and if there's a project even out there for me!
On the money front waiting until January is no problem, as I was only ever paying the 8 month amount and it was what I signed up for in the first place.
In the mean time I'm looking for a part time job or 2, which with Christmas temping coming up, should be successful!

One training for another!
So last week my half marathon training took a bit of a back seat to my training for my project in Mauritania.
IT WAS AN AMAZING WEEK THOUGH!
Firstly the people, a big shout out to Sean (Rupet), Tori (Victoria) & Cat who not only let me kip in their dorm, but provided much of the weeks entertainment, as did comedy double act Fraiser & John.
Finally, a big cheer for my Mauritania crowd Jen, Emma and Shaun (my partner).
During the week we had chats with our Desk Officer (Ali M) about our projects and countries, lessons on teaching TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language); culminating in a 10 & 20 minute lesson on separate days.
I really enjoyed these, dressing up as a waiter, complete with felt tip mustache (cheers Tori...)
and wearing an anorak...
Every evening I managed to get down to the beach, sometimes before sun set, sometimes after, and the first 2 nights I even went for a swim (so incredibly cold, yet at least 5 out of 35 went in that I know of!)
The last night we had a drinks reception before our 'posh' dinner. I managed to be singled out by Nicholas Maclean-Bristol, THE Head of Project, having asked to speak to the Mauritanian lot, and me being the only one in the room. However, at least I got a full one on one chat before making me excuses to get a drink. Next he spoke to a group of girls, followed by Sean, or just managed to introduce himself before the toats were made - unlucky!
The ceilidh that followed was perhaps the sweatiest thing of my life, only beaten by the thickest of mosh pits. However the night was great, the drinks flowed (though not for me, naturally) and, after some fun times on the beach, we got to bed around 3am for our 7.30 start!
Despite the emotional scenes as our numbers dwindled, most of us held our upper lips, as we wished each other a brilliant year, all too painfully aware that it would be at least another year to these friendships were rekindled, if ever at all!
As our number dripped to 5 in Oban, a somber air set in, and was only broken by our trip up to the local castle where we were cornered and trapped by an interactive theatre group which had managed to move to trap us on the hill.
The following morning passed relatively trouble free, until upon arriving at the airport, having checked my luggage in, I discovered my flight was running 50 minutes late.
In the end, my flight got in almost 2 hours after the ETA, but I was just greatful not to be stuck in the air port any more!
Upon reflection, I had the most amazing time ever, and would not change one minute.
From the heart to hearts with one or two people, to the comic timings of John, to Shaun having to send me out of his lessons, my week on Coll has just reaffirmed what a magical place Coll is, and how beautiful things can be.
No matter what happens when I leave in Octobar, no matter what happens in Mauritania, those memories will remain with me and, hopefully, see me through the tougher times.

After the bag pack
Thank you so much to my parents and all my friends who helped with my bag pak fundraiser at Saiansburys over the weekend of the 4th & 5th of July.
Together, over the 20 hours the shop was open, we raised a staggering,
£1315!
Combined with my marathon money, that puts me at almost 100% of my total.
With the charity quiz nught this evening, we're hoping to push over my total, despite the predicted low turn out.
Thank you to all the people who have helped so far, and I can't wait to give the news that the total's been reached!

Update 13.06.09
The BBQ Gig fundraiser went off without too much of a hitch! A few problems resulted in Badman & Jahin unable to attend, but in their place they sent 2/3 of the band Cojack, who were amazing, despite their lack of microphones!
In the coming weeks I hope to have a video montage of the event uploaded, just waiting to after exams!
A week this Monday sees me starting my work experience at one of my old primary schools which is very exciting and I hope to be able to learn a lot and take that experience out to Mauritania.
I've started my marathon, though I'm taking it lightly around this exams period by only doing 3x3km runs a week, but hope to up this amount considerable in the coming weeks, as well as get back into training at the gym.
On the money front, my total has now reached 62%, excluding the sponsorship for the half marathon which is at £285 thanks to to the lasted few sponsorships from teachers.

Updates 2/6/09
Finally I've scored a bag packing event at a Sainsbury! 4th & 5th of July!
Any volunteers please contact me!
I've been trying to arrange one of these for the last month and half so am very happy!
Also, I'm now 52% of the way there, which is a real testament to my friends and family who have all been donating & helping out!
This Friday is my BBQ Gig, which is looking to 25-50 people buying tickets, which can only be a good thing! I've had many issues with the band, but I can confirm that Badman & Jahin will be playing acoustically!
An update on the website is that I've been able to upload photos from my selection course, and I hope to have photos from the BBQ Gig up by the weekend!

Thank you very much to Uncle Michael & the Petries for their generous donations to the cause in the last few days!
Thank you to Mr Northcott & the Upper Sixth for their donations at the leavers assembly which tallyed almost £70 in total, so thank you again!
To the teachers that have sponsored me for my 1/2 marathon in September, thank you very much, collecting the money from you will make finishing the run just that lil bit sweeter!
My thanks also go out to all my friends who have bought tickets for my fundraiser BBQ Gig, especially to those who are unable to attend but have bought tickets regardless!

Tees!
So today is the day the t-shirts arrived, and they look pretty funky, so thanks to Project Trust & Ali S!
I spent most of last night putting together a letter for my head master outlining the project & initial ideas on how the school can help/what I'd like to do in school.
The end of term summer party & BBQ dates are coming together, and I'm waiting on input from the band as to whether they can make the date.
More supermarkets have been researched and letters being printed off as a type.
This morning I've made a start on putting my leaflet together, which is taking a while, but will be worth it!
I'm also now signed up on twitter & flickr, one to keep whom may be concerned up to date with my efforts, & the other ready for uploading photos from the fundraising events!
Just about to head out to the library to begin looking for chairtable trusts to write to!
Long day ahead it seems! Hehe!

Half Marathon!
I've signed up for the Sony Ericsson "Run to the beat" half marathon today.
A brave move some might say, others would say foolish.... Haha
But I'm feeling confident, I've got my training back on its way and time on my side!
The run is the 27th September at the O2 area, so it's gonna be immense!
Can't wait! On with the training!
On another note, I'm now up to 23 volunteers for bag packing, thanks guys!

Bag packing to send Molkie to Mauritania
So the latest:-
I'm also investigating the possibilities of doing a sponsored hair and/or leg wax at school, so I'll see what my HoY has to say about it.
Plus I'm pursuing different local clubs who might be interested in donating.
Time to get letter writing!
- I have address for Sainsburys & Waitrose to start investigating doing a bag packing day
- A facebook group for packing bag volunteers
- Have 4! People to bag pack
- A meeting with my head of year

Project Trust - I've been selected!
So, as of the 20th April 2009, I am now guaranteed a placement abroad with Project Trust
In the email, I'm being offered, in this order of probability;
From the sound of it, I'll be able to get to Mauritania as soon as I get the funds together, seeing as I'm doing training with the 12 month people, which is good, I might get more than 8 months abroad!
